When you think of it it's fairly unbelievable. I am able to sit here in a town called Stanstead on the US/Canadian border and watch Canadian TV online without an issue. If I wander down the street and cross the border line with my laptop and connect from a Starbucks down the road and I am blocked. The reason is straightforward, by connecting in the US side of the boundary and walking a few hundred yards I have also changed my electronic address. In the North I so have a Canadian IP address, in the South and use a Canadian ISP my digital nationality turns me into an American. The difference might appear trivial but it really makes a massive difference to what I will do online. Your place will be looked up by most important sites as you connect and control what you see on their website. For instance when in canada, I get blocked trying to view anything on Hulu or Pandora.com, these work perfectly with an US IP address. There is a simpler method to change your addresses without moving place although it functions easily enough. You can use a Canadian proxy to hide your real location and regain control!
